Maureen Hughes – Casting Director

In 1984, she joined Druid Theatre Company and began a working relationship with Garry Hynes which led to a three year contract as Casting Director in I990 at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.  She then moved to work with Susie Figgis in London working with her as Assistant on The Butcher Boy. She returned to Dublin to work on The Boxer with Jim Sheridan and then set up as a freelance Casting Director in Dublin.

Over the past twenty years, she has worked with screenwriter/directors, Martin McDonagh, Sam Shepherd, Paolo Sorrentino, Jim Sheridan and John Carney. Recent films include two features, The Winter Lake, directed by Phillip Sheerin and The Ballad of Audrey Earnshaw, a Canadian-Irish co-production which shot in Alberta.

Her work on Irish television is marked by a five year series of Love/Hate, a remarkable series written by multi award winner, Stuart Carolan. She cast Raw, Charlie, Rebellion, Acceptable Risk and more recently, the critically acclaimed Taken Down for RTE and co-cast Handy, a pilot for RTE.

Currently casting for the Abbey Theatre, Gaiety Theatre and Landmark Productions, she continues to work with Druid as Casting Consultant. She recently cast Incantata by Paul Muldoon for Galway International Arts Festival which will be seen at the Gate Theatre, Dublin in September 2019. She is in casting development on two forthcoming exciting Irish feature films and a TV series for Production in 2019.
