Breakfast on Pluto

based on the novel by Patrick McCabe
writer:  Bob Kelly
composer:  Duke Special
director and co-creator:  Des Kennedy

The rural Irish border town of Tyreelin at the height of the Troubles is no place for a wonderfully unpredictable child like Patrick/Pussy Braden, illegitimate offspring of an errant priest and a long-gone local girl.

Dismayed by small-town bigotry, religious repression and the IRA’s lack of fashion sense, Pussy ditches watchtowers and checkpoints for the faraway galaxy of 1970s London in search of a long-lost mother and a technicolour new life.

Des Kennedy directs a sensational Irish cast, with Fra Fee leading as Patrick/Pussy, in a musical of self-discovery that all fabulously attired, highly-strung foundling glam-things will love. Fra is joined by David Ganly, Kate Gilmore, Rickie O’Neill and Niamh Perry, with further casting to be announced soon.

Created by a stellar creative team – which also includes Jennifer Whyte (music supervisor), Jennifer Rooney (choreographer), Katie Davenport (set and costume designer), Sinead McKenna (lighting designer) and Eleanor White (dramaturg) –  audiences got a glimpse of this dazzling musical coming-of-age story at Galway International Arts Festival (GIAF) in 2019.  Two late-night work-in-progress performances took place in a cabaret setting at the Black Box Theatre on 19 and 20 July 2019, ahead of the upcoming full world premiere production.
